These songs can be used to support engagement with children and include Makaton signs as well. They are songs that should be familiar to your child. Model the signs of the songs to your child and encourage them to join along! This should be a fun and relaxed activity. When actions are linked to words in the nursery rhyme, it helps boost motor skills and both fine and gross motor skills.

The video below was created by Sophie Merrill, a Riverside Teaching Assistant. Sophie challenged herself to learn a song in British Sign Language (BSL) to keep herself busy whilst staying safe during lock-down. Although we use Makaton at Riverside, we are proud of Sophie's achievement and we thought anyone familiar with BSL (or even those not familiar) would enjoy this film. Well done Sophie.
